With the January transfer window set to open in a matter of weeks, a number of Manchester United players have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford and one of them is Marcus Rashford.
The Daily Mail has reported that United are willing to sell Rashford for £40 million in the January transfer window. There are PSR issues at the Premier League club, who are eager to get the forward’s £325,000-a-week’s wages off their books.
This is not the first time that there has been speculation on the future of Rashford, but it does seem that his days at United are numbered.
United took on Viktoria Plzen away from home at the Doosan Aréna in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.
Rashford started the League Stage game. The England international forward failed to make an impact. Rasmus Hojlund replaced him in the 56th minute and scored two goals to lead Ruben Amorim’s side to a 2-1 win.
The forward looked dire against Plzen, just as he did under Erik ten Hag before the Dutchman got sacked. Even Amorim does not seem to be able to get the best out of Rashford.
It is time for Rashford to leave United. He is 27 now and things are not going to get any better for him at Old Trafford.
For United, paying someone £325,000 per week in salary who has been underperforming for years is, to put it bluntly, pouring money down the drain. Rashford himself could do with a different environment and get his career back on track.
Just take a look at Rashford’s stats. The forward has scored seven goals and given three assists in 24 matches in all competitions this season. In the 2023-24 campaign, the Englishman scored eight goals and gave five assists in 43 competitive matches.
True, in the 2022-23 campaign Rashford scored 30 goals and gave 10 assists in 56 matches in all competitions for United, but he has failed to replicate those heroics and there are no signs that he will return to that level.
