Newcastle United made an underwhelming start to the season, but they appear to have turned a corner in recent weeks under manager Eddie Howe.
The Magpies have won their previous six matches across all competitions, including big wins over Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle outclassed Arsenal 2-0 on Tuesday night in the first-leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal, taking a big stride to reach their second final in three seasons.
Alexander Isak was once again the star performer for Eddie Howe’s side, with the Sweden international netting the opener before also playing a big role in Anthony Gordon’s second-half goal.
The striker’s latest exploits mean he has now reached 15 goals and four assists in 22 matches across all competitions this term.
Ally McCoist makes stunning Isak claim that NUFC fans will love
Former Rangers star Ally McCoist has been so impressed that he thinks the Newcastle star is even better than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
Expressing his views on Talksport, McCoist said: “Haaland, for me, would score more goals in a good team. But Isak is by far and away a better all-round centre-forward, I think.
“Haaland’s movement in the box is as good as anything, but Isak’s movement all around the pitch is far better, in my opinion. I think he leads the line extremely well.”
The Magpies supporters have been delighted with Isak’s displays this season. The 25-year-old has been scoring goals in almost every game in recent months.
His excellent form this season has caught the attention of Arsenal and Liverpool. But the NUFC fans are unlikely to be bothered as their star forward has a contract at St James’ Park until 2028.
Not everyone will agree with McCoist’s views as Haaland has been nothing but an absolute goal machine.
The Norwegian joined City in 2022 and he has already scored 111 goals in 125 total appearances.
Isak’s goalscoring numbers are not that impressive, but McCoist is right in saying his movement all around the pitch is far better than Haaland.
