Arsenal want to sign Ronald Araujo from Barcelona in January

Arsenal are interested in signing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona in the January transfer window.

That is according to TuttoJuve, which has reported interest from Serie A giants Juventus in Araujo as well.

The Italian news outlet has claimed Arsenal are keen on Araujo because of his versatility to play as a centre-back or as a right-back.

Juventus, though, are ahead in talks for the Uruguay international defender, which suggests that Premier League outfit Arsenal have some catching up to do in terms of negotiations.

Arsenal should not sign Ronald Araujo from Barcelona in January

Arsenal have two of the best centre-backs in the world. William Saliba and Gabriel have forged a very strong partnership at the heart of the Gunners’ defence and have been brilliant in the Premier League.

Of course, like all big clubs, Arsenal should always be on the lookout for good players who can improve their team and make them better.

However, there is no need for the Gunners to sign Araujo, linked with Aston Villa in the summer of 2024, in the middle of the season.

The 25-year-old £124,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender has only just recovered from a long-term injury. It is going to take him a while to get back to his best.

What Arsenal need to try to sign in January is a striker who can score goals on a regular basis and is lethal in the opposition’s penalty box.

The Gunners have found the back of the net 39 times in 20 Premier League games so far this season.

Liverpool, who are at the top of the Premier League table, have scored 47 goals in 19 games. Even Tottenham Hotspur have scored more league goals than Arsenal this campaign.

Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are not very prolific, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs to address that situation before he brings in another centre-back.
