West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez is being targeted by French giants AS Monaco in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer guru shared on X that Monaco have made an approach to discuss the possibility of signing the Hammers midfielder in January.
West Ham have confirmed the appointment of Graham Potter as their new manager, and he will be keen to keep all his key players at the club beyond the end of this window.
Romano says that Moncao want to sign Alvarez, who is on £100k-per-week wages at the London Stadium, on loan, and it will be very difficult for the French club to lure him away from the London club.
The defensive midfielder has made 11 starts in the Premier League this season, and a further five have come from the bench.
West Ham should reject loan offers for Edson Alvarez
The Hammers signed Alvarez from Ajax for a fee of around £35.4 million in the summer of 2023.
The Mexico international made 42 appearances in all competitions in his first season, and it would be foolish to send him on loan in January, without signing a proper replacement.
Writing in the print version of The Daily Mail (9 January), Simon Jones has claimed that the Hammers are expected to reject an approach from Monaco for Alvarez.

Alvarez has not been able to justify his price tag. He has not been good enough for the Hammers and has proved to be a very underwhelming signing for the club.
His disciplinary issues have been a major concern for the club, and he should be performing at a high level, given his wealth of experience and quality.
The appointment of Potter could given him the necessary boost that he was lacking under the previous manager.
West Ham spent heavily during the summer, but there are a lot of players who have badly underperformed. This is a big chance for Alvarez to work hard and salvage his West Ham career under the new manager.
