Aston Villa eye January transfer window deal for Sevilla defender Loic Bade

Aston Villa have started discussions with Sevilla over a potential transfer for Loic Bade during the ongoing January transfer window, according to French outlet L’equipe.

While the Villa Park club have yet to table an offer for the 24-year-old defender, they are keen on recruiting his services and have asked the La Liga club what it would take to get a deal done this winter.

Villa may need to break the bank as landing Bade will not come cheap anytime soon.

The Frenchman has a release clause of €50 million as he still has four years left on his Sevilla contract, and whether the Villans will be ready to activate the clause remains to be seen.

Manager Unai Emery is desperate to bolster his squad for the second half of 2024-25 in a bid to finish well across all competitions, and he wants to strengthen at the back.

Landing Bade will be huge for Villa, but there could be other hurdles on the way apart from his €50m valuation.

Liverpool and Newcastle United are also reportedly keen on the Frenchman, and more suitors could emerge in the pursuit of his services.

Villa will have to pip their Premier League rivals to Bade, and he also has interest from Bundesliga and Serie A clubs.

A return to the English top-flight could appeal to the defender after a loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the first-half of 2022-23 ended without a single appearance, and the Midlands club are offering him a chance.

However, having established himself as a regular for Sevilla since moving there in January 2023, leaving midway through the campaign may not be on his mind, and Villa and other suitors may need to wait until the end of the season to have a realistic chance of getting him.
