Aston Villa are determined to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.
That is according to Sky Sports, which has claimed the new offer that Villa have now made for Malen.
Dortmund are willing to sell the versatile 25-year-old forward, but the German club want closer to £25 million for him.
Villa, who are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, have increased their offer and are now “getting closer” to Dortmund’s valuation of the Netherlands international forward.
Sky Sports have reported that the Villans are now ready to pay £21 million, meaning that they are only £4 million away from getting the former PSV star.
Aston Villa should just pay £25m for Donyell Malen
If Dortmund want £25m for Malen, then Villa should just pay the sum and get a deal done now. After all, they are only £4m away from meeting the German club’s valuation of the forward.
Of course, from a business point of view, Villa have to make sure that they get Malen, and any other player for that matter, for as little as they can, but manager Unai Emery will surely like him in his squad as soon as possible.
After all, the Villans’ main objective this season is to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
Malen, who was linked with Liverpool in March 2024, is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions in attack. The Dutchman has turned out as a centre-forward, out wide as a winger and even in central midfield this season.
The former Arsenal prospect has scored five goals and given one assist in 20 matches in all competitions so far this season.
During the 2023-24 campaign, the forward made 38 matches in all competitions for Dortmund. He scored 15 goals and provided five assists in those games.
