Aston Villa have started discussions with Ligue 2 club Caen to sign their highly-rated young attacker Tidiam Gomis in the January transfer window.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Villa have identified the French talent pool as a profitable catchment area while signing young players and they have entered negotiations to sign the 18-year-old attacker.
Gomis has a contract at the French club until 2025. This means he can leave for free during the summer transfer window.
Villa are looking to exploit that opportunity and they can get the youngster at a bargain price considering he has only a few months left on his current deal.
Caen can look to sell him now, and Villa have started initial negotiations. The Villans are likely to face competition from RB Leipzig and AC Milan for Gomis’ signature.
The young attacker has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the French side this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Another big transfer window for Aston Villa?
Villa are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 32 points, only four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Finishing in the top four should be their primary aim this season, but this time, it won’t be easy, as the competition is extremely fierce. Newcastle United and Manchester City are looking to break into the top four, while other clubs could join the race.
Villa have decided to offload Jaden Philogene this month. The 22-year-old returned to Villa Park in the summer window from Hull City, and made 15 appearances.
He has failed to impress Unai Emery and the club have decided to let him go permanently. He is set to join Ipswich Town after both sides have agreed a deal.
Villa are also looking to sign an experienced forward and have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen. Dortmund are looking to sell him, but as of now, no agreement has been reached.
