Ipswich Town are close to signing Ben Godfrey on loan in the January transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The Tractor Boys are 18th in the Premier League and are looking to make reinforcement in the January window. They have conceded 33 goals in the Premier League already, and it doesn’t come as a surprise that they are looking to bring in an experienced defender.
Romano confirmed earlier this month that Ipswich were in talks to sign Godfrey on loan from Serie A club Atalanta. He has shared an update today, where he claims that the former Everton defender has already undergone the first part of his medical.
The documents are being exchanged at the moment, and the deal is as good as done, which Romano says, in his style – “Here we go”.
He wrote on X: “Ben Godfrey to Ipswich Town, exclusive story confirmed — agreement done on loan deal with Atalanta. Godfrey completed first part of medical tests today and documents are now being exchanged. Here we go.”
Ben Godfrey would be a fantastic signing for Ipswich
The 26-year-old joined Atalanta in the summer transfer window from Everton, but the move didn’t work out for him as he had planned.
He has yet to start a game in the Serie A and managed only 22 minutes of league action thus far. In fact, he hasn’t started in any game in any competition which shows that he is not in the manager’s plans.
Atalanta are quick to send him out on loan, and Ipswich have wasted no time in getting his signature.

Godfrey, who can play as a centre-back, right-back, and left-back, made over 90 appearances for the Toffees. He also made 78 appearances for Norwich City.
He has a wealth of Premier League experience and could play a massive role in helping the club stay in the top tier of English football.
Ipswich picked up a massive 2-0 win over Chelsea in their previous game, and they will look to get another positive result against Fulham on Sunday at Craven Cottage.
Godfrey won’t be registered by that time, but hopefully, he can play in the FA Cup tie against Bristol City the following week.
