Chelsea re-open talks with Bayern for Mathys Tel

Chelsea have re-opened talks with Bayern Munich over the potential signing of forward Mathys Tel, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues desperately need a new winger, having been without Mykailo Mudryk for weeks. The west Londoners remain keen on bringing Tel to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea restarted discussions over a move after the 19-year-old decided to leave the Germans. He initially wanted to stay and told the Premier League side no, but after barely receiving game time over their past few matches, the writing was on the wall.

He can provide competition for Jadon Sancho on the left flank at Chelsea and give them the spark in attack that they are sorely missing.

The electric attacker received high praise from the great Thierry Henry, who described the Chelsea target asextraordinaryin September 2023.

However, Chelsea are not alone in the race for his signature. The French prodigy has attracted widespread interest, with seven offers from multiple European teams.

Among the English suitors, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Aston Villa have shown interest in Tel in recent months. Manchester United could still move for him before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Chelsea might have the upper hand as Bayern Munich are interested in Christopher Nkunku. He is valued at £70 million.

Chelsea need to offer a loan deal for Tel

Tel is fixated on making it at Bayern, and Chelsea don’t need to force the issue. The Blues can approach Bayern with a loan offer. This deal allows him to seek playing time in the Premier League and return to Bayern this summer.

He will still find players ahead of him in the pecking order. This also allows Chelsea to evaluate him and see how he fits into the team before considering a permanent move.

Chelsea have shelled out money recklessly over the past three seasons and need to be wiser with funds.

The summer market can also bring even more exciting options than Tel. Bradley Barcola might decide to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and Rodrygo Goes could walk away from Real Madrid for playing time on the left flank.

A loan deal for Tel could be the perfect short-term solution for Chelsea and the player, providing the Blues with much-needed attacking depth while allowing the youngster to prove himself in the Premier League.
