Chelsea recall Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace loan

Trevoh Chalobah will not continue at Crystal Palace after Chelsea have opted to recall him from his loan spell, according to David Ornstein.

The 25-year-old defender joined the Eagles on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window. He has become an important player at Selhurst Park under Oliver Glasner and has been playing with a lot of confidence.

However, Chelsea want to bring him back at the midway point, and the defender will return to Stamford Bridge with immediate effect.

Since moving to Selhurst Park in August, he has made 14 appearances for the Eagles. He will not be available for Palace when they travel to Leicester City on Wednesday.

While he could play an important part for Chelsea in the second half of the season, the news will come as a big blow for Palace.

BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella reported on X that the decision was made last night with a deadline on the use of the clause towards the end of this month.

The Palace fans will be very disappointed with how things panned out. Chalobah was becoming an integral part of their plans, and there were even suggestions that the Eagles could try to get him on board permanently next summer.

Chelsea are missing Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile through injuries, while Axel Disasi can move to Juventus.

The Blues feel that he can be an important player under Maresca, but Palace fans will laugh at those suggestions.

Chalobah was not even picked in one of their pre-season tours, and he was deemed surplus to requirements. That is why a host of clubs, including Palace, Aston Villa, West Ham United, and even Fulham, all wanted to sign him.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Marc Guehi in January, but it looks unlikely they would bid for their former player after getting Chalobah back.
