Crystal Palace fans will be thrilled by Marc Guehi transfer update

Crystal Palace progressed through to the next round of the FA Cup after they won 1-0 against Stockport County at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

After the match, Oliver Glasner said that the Eagles do not have many outfield players at the moment, and he doesn’t want to lose members of his side despite exit talks.

One of the players who is being linked with a move away from Palace is Marc Guehi.

The 24-year-old centre-back is being chased by Chelsea who wants to re-sign their former player.

Palace valued him at around £70 million last summer, but the price will go down in January. Guehi has only 18 months remaining on his current deal, and the Eagles are expected to demand a £50m fee for him.

According to a report from The Mirror, Chelsea’s potential move for Guehi could hit a snag due to the player’s wage demands.

Guehi could command a salary towards the £200,000-a-week, but Chelsea now have a strict wage structure which has lower basic terms.

Glasner said today that he knows for sure Guehi and Trevoh Chalobah want to stay at Selhurst Park.

“I want Chalobah to stay and I know Marc Guehi wants to stay,” said the Palace boss, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

Crystal Palace fans will be thrilled by the news. The fact that Palace are not actively looking to sell their key player suggests that they are not going to lose him for cheap in the winter transfer market.

On top of that, Guehi may not be willing to return back to Chelsea if they fail to meet his wage demands. He is a regular member of the England national team, and his performances in the last 24 months for Palace have been exemplary.

Palace may have to sell him at some point because they probably won’t be able to hold on to him for long, but losing him midway would have been a massive blow for them.

Chelsea want reinforcements after losing Wesley Fofana but they may struggle to sign Guehi in January. They can recall Chalobah from his loan spell.
