Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has spoken highly of Myles Lewis-Skelly after the Gunners beat Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Mikel Arteta’s side got the better of Tottenham 2-1 in the North London derby.
An own goal from Dominic Solanke in the 40th minute and Leandro Trossard’s strike in the 44th minute secured the points for Arsenal in the Premier League game.
Son Heung-Min had given Tottenham the lead at the Emirates Stadium in the 25th minute.
The win against Spurs means that Arsenal are now second in the Premier League table, four points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
Rice started the match for Arsenal. The England international was deployed on the left of a three-man midfield and had Lewis-Skelly behind him at left-back.
After the game, Rice raved about the 18-year-old and noted just how good he was against Spurs in the North London derby.
Rice said about Lewis-Skelly, as quoted on BBC Sport: “The young boy Myles [Lewis-Skelly] was unbelievable. For 18 years of age to be playing how he is… It is just ridiculous.
“The young players now have no fear, none whatsoever. Four or five times in the second half he used his body to get away from someone.
“He has that Moussa Dembele-type strength. It is risky but to show that personality and character at 18 is unbelievable.”
View: Myles Lewis-Skelly was superb for Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur
Lewis-Skelly is only 18 years of age and is just starting his career, but his performance for Arsenal against Tottenham in the North London derby on Wednesday evening was of a different level.
The teenager, who did well against Manchester City too this season, showed a lot of composure at the back to keep the Tottenham forwards at bay. He was also very eager to go forward and help his team in attack.
The way Lewis-Skelly handled Spurs forward Dejan Kulusevski showed his class, and Arsenal fans will be proud to have another gem on their hands.
During his time on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium, Lewis-Skelly has 93.8% of the possession and took 46 touches of all the ball, according to WhoScored.
The teenager also attempted one dribble, and made four tackles, one interception and two clearances. He put in one cross as well.
