Aston Villa are expected to remain busy during the January transfer window, with Unai Emery looking to bring in some quality players to bolster the squad.
Villa have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Donyell Malen this month, and it appears that talks have been ongoing between the two clubs over the player’s signature.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has made six starts in the Bundesliga this season, and a further seven appearances have come from the bench. He has also made five appearances in the Champions League.
Malen has scored five goals and provided three assists in all competitions this season, but Dortmund are willing to cash in on him.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Malen is “believed to have given his blessing” to a potential move to Villa.
Talks are ongoing between the two clubs over a deal for the forward. Villa have already submitted £15 million, but Dortmund are looking for something closer to £25m.
German newspaper Bild suggests that Dortmund are starting to get realistic with their asking price, considering that the player has a contract until 2026. There is a feeling that a deal can be struck in the coming weeks.
Bolstering the forward department is a priority for Aston Villa
Malen joined the German giants in the summer of 2021 and has scored 39 goals in 131 appearances in all competitions.
He mainly plays as a right-winger but is capable of playing across the front line. The Dutchman is ready to leave the Signal Iduna Park in January and has reportedly agreed terms with Villa ahead of a possible switch.
Villa are expected to send Jaden Philogene out on loan this month, and his departure will free up the space for Malen’s arrival.
Emery is also looking to add depth at the back, and Villa are looking to make a move for Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza in the January transfer window.
