Everton have identified David Moyes as a strong candidate for the managerial role at Goodison Park following the sacking of Sean Dyche.
That is according to reports in The Telegraph and The Times, which have noted that Moyes is a manager The Friedkin Group are really keen on.
The Telegraph has reported that Moyes, who is without a managerial role at the moment, is “expected to be strongly considered” for the now-vacant role at Everton.
According to The Times, the Toffees are considering bringing the 61-year-old former Manchester United and West Ham United manager back to Goodison Park.
Why David Moyes is the perfect Everton manager
Moyes was in charge of Everton from 2002 until 2013 before he parted company to take charge of Manchester United.
It was a golden period for Everton, as they established themselves in the Premier League and pushed for the European places pretty much regularly.
Everton remain a major club in the Premier League, but since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, the Toffees have failed to do much of note and have been battling relegation for a while.
Moyes knows Everton inside out. He knows the Premier League inside out. The Scotsman has also been successful in Europe with West Ham.
The 61-year-old’s playing style is not the most entertaining. It is not free-flowing and is not particularly pleasing to the eye.
But it works. Moyes, who has also managed Preston North End, Real Sociedad and Sunderland in his career, is tactically very astute and his football is effective. He knows how to keep clubs in the Premier League and also make them progress over a long period of time.
Everton are among the clubs who could get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. Moyes would be able to steer the Toffees out of trouble if The Friedkin Group hire him now.
