Fenerbahce in advanced lead to sign Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos

Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos is edging closer to leaving Villa Park in the January transfer window, according to Loic Tanzi

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol claimed earlier this week that Fenerbahce are willing to pay in the region of £10 million to sign the 31-year-old defender this month.

Now the L’Equipe journalist has reported via X that the Turkish giants have taken the “most advanced lead” to sign Carlos, who is on £100k-per-week wages.

Villa were initially reluctant to sell Carlos, especially after the injury to Pau Torres, but it appears that the offer from Fenerbahce is too good for them to turn down.

“For now, the most advanced lead at Fenerbahçe is not Danso, but Diego Carlos (Aston Villa),” wrote Tanzi.

The Brazilian defender has made eight starts in the Premier League this season, and a further two appearances have come from the bench.

Aston Villa need to sign defenders this month

This is already turning out to be a busy transfer window for Villa.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa are ready to allow Jaden Philogene to leave the club permanently this month.

Everton made an attempt to sign Philogene, but the 22-year-old winger is moving to Ipswich Town instead. Romano claims that they have agreed a deal with Villa for £21m with add-ons fee.

Villa need to sign new defenders this month, and according to Matteo Moretto, they are looking to sign Juan Foyth, who plays for Villarreal.

The Villans are desperate to add a new right-back this month to provide competition for Matty Cash and they have been linked with several players already.

Moretto also claims that Villa are looking at Andrei Rațiu as a potential option. Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza has also been linked with a move to Villa Park.

If Carlos leaves this month, Villa should actively look to sign Milan Skriniar on loan. The Paris Saint-Germain defender is ready to leave the club in the January transfer window and he is being targeted by both Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
