West Ham United have finally run out of patience with Julen Lopetegui, and they have decided to sack the Spaniard, according to a report from talkSPORT.
The Hammers are 14th in the Premier League table with 23 points and have picked up only one win in their last five games.
The Spaniard joined West Ham in the summer, replacing David Moyes. He was backed properly in the summer transfer window, but the results have been very poor.
West Ham are wasting no time in finding a replacement, and they have held talks with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter to take charge of the club.
According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, West Ham are in discussion in the last 24 hours with the 49-year-old manager, who is currently out of work. He is desperate to return to management and he is expected to be named as Lopetegui’s replacement.
West Ham should sack Julen Lopetegui
The Hammers have given the Spaniard ample time to turn the fortunes around, but it seems West Ham are not progressing under him at all.
They were humiliated by Liverpool 5-0 at home and lost 4-1 against Manchester City in their last game.
Despite spending over £100 million in the summer window, West Ham managed just six wins in 20 league games. This is simply not acceptable, and the club have reportedly made the sensible decision to part ways.
David Moyes watched West Ham at the weekend, but Alan Nixon says a third spell is unlikely for their former manager. Steve Cooper was also at the Manchester City defeat but he is well not among their major targets.
Potter would be a smart appointment. While his tenure at Chelsea didn’t last long, he did a fantastic job with Brighton. It is unclear about the length of the contract that will be offered to him, but he appears to be ready to move to London Stadium.
