Joe Gelhardt will leave Leeds United this month

Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt will leave the club in the January transfer window, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

The newspaper journalist wrote on X that several Championship clubs have registered an interest in signing the forward on loan this month.

He has also received enquiries from overseas, but his future destination remains unclear.

Witcoop suggests that Portsmouth, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City, Derby County and Plymouth are all interested in signing the 22-year-old attacker, who is currently not in Daniel Farke’s first-team plans.

He is considering his next move, and as it stands, the player will leave Elland Road at some point this month.

Joe Gelhardt must leave Leeds United in January

When Gelhardt first arrived at Leeds from Wigan Athletic in 2020, it felt like he would become a real superstar at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa played a big role in giving him the confidence to play for the first team, and he brought excitement among fans with his touches and movements.

In fact, one of the reasons why Bielsa refused to sign strikers is that he feared it might hamper Gelhardt’s progress at Leeds.

However, the young attacker lost his way in the past 18 months, and the loan spell at Sunderland didn’t make a big difference.

Since Leeds got relegated and Farke was appointed as the new manager, Gelhardt gradually fell off the radar.

Despite performing brilliantly in the Premier League, he just couldn’t impress the Whites boss. He has made only two substitute appearances this season, managing nine minutes, and it is daylight clear that Farke does not rate him highly.

It is sad to see him struggle for regular games, as fans expected a lot from him. He needs to leave the club and start a fresh journey elsewhere.

There is no shortage of admirers for him, and all he needs to do is pick the right club for his development.

In other Leeds news, the Whites have opened talks to sign Nottingham Forest centre-back this month.
