Leeds United eye move for River Plate goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma

Leeds United are reportedly eyeing a move for River Plate goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma in the January transfer window.

According to a report from Argentinian outlet River Noticias, Leeds want to bring the 31-year-old stop-stopper to Elland Road. The player could be allowed to leave before the end of the window.

The Whites see him as a potential replacement for Illan Meslier, who has recently come under huge criticism for making a blunder against Hull City during Leeds’ 3-3 draw in the Championship.

The Frenchman is set to face an uncertain future at Leeds after his shocking performance against Hull City. While he has kept 14 clean sheets this season, the goalkeeper has been criticised for his recent poor performances that have cost his side precious points.

While he retains the backing of Daniel Farke, the Whites could be open to selling him if they receive the right offers.

With that in mind, Leeds are possibly checking on new goalkeepers, and they have earmarked Ledesma as a possible option.

The experienced goalkeeper, also known as Conan Ledesma, arrived at River Plate from Cadiz CF last summer. The Argentine goalkeeper has managed only four appearances for River Plate and has not made any appearances since October.

According to Soy del Millo, Leeds could make a bid for the goalkeeper in the coming days. He is playing second fiddle to Franco Armani this season, and River Plate could be willing to let him go.

Ledesma has managed 229 appearances in his club career and hasn’t played in England before. It will be a grave injustice with Karl Darlow if he is not picked as the club’s first-choice keeper if Meslier leaves.

Farke has confirmed that Darlow will start against Harrogate Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, and this is a good opportunity for him to come up with a strong performance and force the Whites manager to select him ahead of Meslier in the Championship.
