Newcastle trio could depart in January as Paul Mitchell aims to raise cash for new recruits

Newcastle United ended the year on a positive note following a 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Monday.

The Magpies took the lead through Alexander Isak with four minutes on the clock before Joelinton soon added another with a superb header.

United improved after the break, but Newcastle were able to hold on to a comfortable victory at Old Trafford.

The Tyneside club will want to continue their momentum in 2025 by adding a few quality players to the squad.

But the club’s delicate PSR situation means they will need to sell before making any signings.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell endured a disappointing summer transfer window, as he failed to land England defender Marc Guehi.

But the 43-year-old will hope to make some quality additions this month.

A recent report from the Daily Mail suggests the club are open to offers for Miguel Almiron, Kieran Trippier and Sean Longstaff in January as they look to raise cash for new recruits.

Almiron joined Newcastle in 2019 for a record £20.5 million fee, and he has gone on to make 219 senior appearances, scoring 30 goals in the process.

But the Paraguayan has been limited to a single Premier League start this campaign, and with his contract expiring in 2026, the Magpies are willing to cash in on him in January.

Trippier and Longstaff could also depart St James’ Park next month if they receive a good offer.

Both players are not indispensable part of the first-team and could be allowed to leave to increase their spending power.
