Newcastle United are interested in signing Southampton teenager Tyler Dibling in 2025, according to journalist Craig Hope.
Writing for the Daily Mail, the reliable journalist claims “sources have confirmed” to them that the Magpies retain a strong interest in the 18-year-old exciting attacking midfielder who is enjoying a great personal 2024/25 campaign despite Southampton’s struggles.
Newcastle could face strong competition from Premier League leaders Liverpool if the Reds firm up their interest in the player.
Dibling was close to moving to St James’ Park in 2022, but the deal didn’t materialise. Eddie Howe was already impressed with him when he scored a hat-trick for Southampton Under 23s at St James’ Park, aged just 16.
New sporting director Paul Mitchell have links to Southampton, and the Magpies are “being kept abreast of his situation”.
Tyler Dibling would be a cracking signing for Newcastle United
The young midfielder has made 12 starts in the Premier League, and a further six appearances have come from the bench. He has scored two goals already.
He has a contract at St Mary’s until 2026, and the club have an option to extend by 12 months. Therefore, any potential suitor will have to pay a massive fee to lure him away in the January window, and his exit looks unlikely.
Southampton will not want to part ways with Dibling during the middle of the season, as he is not only one of their valuable assets but also a key player for their survival hopes.
They have already initiated talks over a new deal, but as of now, there has not been any breakthrough.
Hope says that Dibling is expected to remain on the South Coast this season, but Newcastle would be in a strong position to compete for the signature of a player next summer and they rate him extremely highly.
The Magpies are looking to add depth to their right-wing areas and have been linked with a move for Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo in January.
