Newcastle United target Michael Kayode set to join Brentford

Newcastle United have missed out on Michael Kayode as Premier League rivals Brentford appear to have won the race for his signature.

The Magpies have remained quiet in the transfer market. They are trying to offload Miguel Almiron, among other players, to make room for new additions.

Kayode is one of the players Newcastle reportedly admire. The 20-year-old full-back from Fiorentina is seen as a “highly-rated” young talent, and he was tracked by Newcastle for a long time, even after they signed Tino Livramento.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed today on X that negotiations with Brentford are at final stages after player has given green light to leave the Serie A club.

Journalist Joel Bland, who is well connected with Newcastle, reacted on X: “Shame, Newcastle had tracked and scouted him heavily even since Tino arrived, really highly rated.”

Newcastle have enough depth in their full-back areas. Apart from Livramento, they have Emil Krafth and Kieran Trippier as other options.

However, Krafth, 30, has a contract until the end of the season. Trippier has a two-year contract remaining at St James’ Park, but at 34, he is not getting any younger.

Unless the Magpies can remove some of their high earners from the club, they are stuck. Kayode could have been an exciting signing for them, but Brentford appear to have won the race for his signature.

Meanwhile, Juventus are making every possible effort to sign Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle. As per Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A giants continued discussions to sign the centre-back, but Newcastle are unwilling to sell him.

If they can come up with a good offer, there is still a possibility that a deal can be agreed.

Newcastle suffered their first defeat after winning nine games in a row when they lost 4-1 against Bournemouth last week. The Magpies will be looking to bounce back when they travel to St Mary’s on Saturday to face Southampton.
