Juventus are interested in signing Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
That is according to Sky Sports, which has claimed Newcastle’s stance on selling Kelly in the middle of the season.
The Premier League club are not looking to sell Kelly in January and will only consider cashing in on the defender if they get a big offer. Fenerbahce have also been linked with him.
View: Lloyd Kelly should push for Juventus move
Kelly has failed to establish himself in the Newcastle first team since his move to St. James’ Park in the summer of 2024.
The 26-year-old, who can play as a central defender or as a left-back, moved to Newcastle as a free agent last summer after his contract at Bournemouth ran out.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe worked with Kelly at Bournemouth, and one suspects that he was a big reason why the defender decided to join the Magpies.
Kelly has not had a good time at St. James’ Park so far. He has been able to make only 13 appearances so far this season, giving one assist in those games.
Of the defender’s nine appearances in the Premier League this season, only four of them have been starts.
Juventus are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and Kelly should push for a move to the Bianconeri in the January transfer window.
Of course, Kelly would not be guaranteed a place in the Juventus starting line-up. The £39,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender would have to work hard to get into the team, but if head coach Thiago Motta wants him, then at least he would have a chance.
It is hard to see Kelly become a regular in the Newcastle starting line-up under Howe. A better option for him would be to join Juventus and try his luck at the Turn club.
