Juventus have had a quiet January transfer window thus far, but that could change heading into the final week of the winter market.
So far, talented right-back Alberto Costa has been the only addition to Thiago Motta’s side, but the Serie A powerhouse are expected to come alive in the transfer market in the coming days.
Juventus have yet to taste defeat in Serie A this season, but they’ve been hardly impressive either. Motta’s side have won just eight of their 21 league games, drawing an astonishing 13.
The former Bologna head coach has hardly had a war chest to work with, considering the club’s precarious financial situation, but will be keen to steer the club into the top four.
Juventus currently sit fifth on the log, but just two points keep them out of the Champions League places, although a massive 13-point gap separates them from league leaders Napoli, so a title charge is out of the question.
However, if they can reinforce the squad this month, they’d be in a better position to qualify for the Champions League. Here are a few transfer rumours making the rounds this month.
Devyne Rensch
Juventus are long-term admirers of talented Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, but they have been beaten to his signature by Serie A rivals AS Roma.
The Bianconeri’s interest in Rensch dates back a couple of years ago when they were rebuilding their squad, and it is believed they’ve retained an interest in the right back since.
However, Roma beat them to the punch, landing the international Netherlands in a €6 million deal that could turn out to be a bargain in a couple of years.
Juventus and Roma have already locked horns this season, although those who bought AS Roma vs Juventus tickets from Seatsnet.com were hardly treated to a spectacle as both sides settled for a share of the spoils.
Roma have now gotten one over the Serie A giants, and Rensch could be a massive addition as they push for a resurgence in the second half of the season.
The 21-year-old has already undergone medical evaluations, so it’s only a matter of time before the transfer is officially announced.
The Giallorossi have been chasing Rensch for months. They wanted him last summer before signing Saud Abdulhamid but were reluctant to meet Ajax’s €15m demands.
The defender has reportedly been pushing for an exit and refused to sign a new deal with Ajax, which played a crucial role during negotiations.
Rensch’s deal with Ajax was set to expire at the end of the season. His contract situation forced the Eredivisie giants to cash in rather than lose him on a free transfer in the summer.
The defender will leave the Dutch giants after 156 appearances across all competitions for the club, during which he contributed ten goals and 12 assists.
He’s primarily a right-back but has played in multiple positions across the backline throughout the years and has earned one cap with the Netherlands national team.
He has signed a long-term contract with the Giallorossi, which will keep him in the Italian capital until the summer of 2029. During that period, he will pocket an estimated €1.2m a year.
Randal Kolo Muani
Juventus have received the green light to register Randal Kolo Muani in time for Saturday’s high-stakes clash with Serie A leaders Napoli, following a breakthrough in Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer dealings.
The French striker arrived in Turin last week and passed his medical but wasn’t able to feature in Juventus’ 2-0 win over AC Milan due to administrative delays.
The hold-up stemmed from PSG’s loan quota, which had already reached its maximum number of players sent abroad. Italian regulations barred further moves until the issue was resolved.
The bottleneck was addressed when PSG offloaded left-back Juan Bernat, allowing Juventus to complete Kolo Muani’s registration.
Bernat’s contract with PSG was terminated by mutual agreement, allowing him to sign a six-month deal with Villarreal, where he had already been playing on loan since August 2024.
Bernat’s exit wasn’t entirely unexpected. The Spaniard made 12 appearances for Villarreal this season across La Liga and the Copa del Rey, providing one assist.
The move not only benefits PSG but also opens the door for Juventus to integrate their new signing ahead of the crunch match with Napoli.
Kolo Muani’s availability could prove pivotal as Juventus look to close the gap on the league leaders.
Despite returning to familiar territory in a blockbuster move from Eintracht Frankfurt, the French international struggled to find his feet at PSG.
Since his big-money move from Germany in the summer of 2023, Kolo Muani has made just 54 appearances across all competitions, returning 11 goals and seven assists.
This season, he only managed two goals and an assist in 14 games across all competitions, and Juventus will be hoping he can recapture the form that made him a high-value asset just over 16 months ago.
Renato Veiga
Juventus have reportedly finalised a short-term loan agreement with Chelsea for Portuguese defender Renato Veiga.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the versatile 21-year-old defender will join the Bianconeri for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Veiga joined Chelsea from FC Basel last summer in a €14m deal but has been largely utilised as a back-up for Mac Cucurella at left-back.
The Portuguese defender has featured 18 times across all competitions this season, returning two goals and an assist, although most of his games have come in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Despite his ability to play in multiple positions, Veiga is keen to continue his career playing at centre-back, which prompted talks of a loan move.
Veiga is reportedly uninterested in leaving Chelsea on a permanent deal. He wants a loan move to bolster his chances of making Portugal’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Chelsea were initially uninterested in loaning him out. They wanted to sell him permanently, but his desire to play for the club in the long term helped to relax their stance.
A number of European clubs were keen to secure his services, but Juventus have won the race, beating out competition from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, among others.
The deal is expected to cost Juventus around €5 million in loan fees, but the Blues will cover the player’s salary and agent fees.
