Romain Esse to undergo Crystal Palace medical on Friday

Crystal Palace are edging closer to securing their first signing of the January window.

According to Alan Nixon, the Eagles are on the verge of bringing Millwall winger Romain Esse to Selhurst Park in the next few days.

Writing on the Patreon, Nixon claims that the 19-year-old attacker will undergo his medical at Crystal Palace on Friday to finalise a £14.5 million move.

Nixon says that the exciting young Millwall attacker has sorted out his Palace contract, while other financial issues have been ironed out.

Esse was originally seen as a signing for next season, but the Eagles began to step up the chase after Liverpool refused to lower Ben Doak’s valuation.

Palace want to keep Esse in their squad rather than loan him back. He is seen as a top talent, and the Eagles feel he is good enough to play in the Premier League.

Lions boss Alex Neil recently claimed a few days back that the winger is likely to move to Palace.

He said: “Crystal Palace have shown a lot of interest in Romain. I didn’t make him available for the game and I think the situation is progressing and what I wouldn’t do is put that at risk at this stage.”

Esse has scored five goals and provided one assist in 25 games in all competitions for Millwall this season.

Palace suffered a big blow this week after Chelsea recalled centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, and it ended his loan spell at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles are unlikely to sign a new defender, as Oliver Glasner feels that the squad has enough depth to cope without him.

Bolstering the forward department was a priority for Palace, who have shown remarkable improvement in the past few months. They have jumped to 14th in the league and are unbeaten in their last six games away from home.

Palace have previously benefitted from signing players from the Championship and the Eagles fans will hope that Esse will also turn out to be a big success at the club.
