Timo Werner is finished at Tottenham Hotspur after his performance against Tamworth

Tottenham Hotspur got the better of Tamworth 3-0 away from home at The Lamb Ground in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

It was expected to be an easy win for Tottenham against their National League North opponents, but Ange Postecoglou’s side needed three goals in extra time to progress to the fourth round of the competition.

Not many Tottenham players did well, and one of them was Timo Werner. The German forward had one of his worst games for the Premier League club.

Werner started as the centre-forward in a 4-3-3 formation for Spurs. Tottenham head coach Postecoglou decided to take off the 28-year-old in the 90th minute.

The forward does not tend to start games regularly for Tottenham, and the RB Leipzig-owned player’s performance against Tamworth is unlikely to have done him any favours.

Werner was one of the worst players on the pitch. The Spurs forward was so bad that he would not even get into the Tamworth team.

The former Chelsea forward led the line for Spurs, but he was ineffective against the National League defenders.

Werner did not look particularly keen on chasing lost balls and did not seem to be working very hard without the ball.

The RB Leipzig-owned forward did not make a single tackle or try for a header even once in the match.

Werner has scored only one goal in 26 matches in all competitions this season. He has given three assists in those games. Werner has been dire this season.

It is hard to see Spurs make Werner’s loan deal permanent in the summer of 2025. While Postecoglou may still have to use the forward in the coming weeks and months due to injuries in his Tottenham squad, it is hard to see him play a prominent role in the North London club’s team.
