Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a bid for Vitoria SC defensive midfielder Manu Silva.
That is according to Sky Sports, which has noted that Wolves are in talks over a deal for Silva.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira is keen on bringing a new midfielder to the club in the January transfer window.
With Wolves facing relegation to the Championship, Pereira believes that a new defensive midfielder would give the team a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League for the 2025-26 campaign.
According to Sky Sports, Wolves, who could lose attacker Matheus Cunha to Premier League rivals Arsenal this month, have made a bid of £10 million for Silva and are in talks with his club Vitoria over a deal for January.
The report has noted that the 23-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder was left out of Vitoria SC’s squad against Arouca on Saturday.
View: Wolves should not bank on Manu Silva to get them out of trouble
While Wolves could do with a new defensive midfielder, Pereira should not think that signing Silva in the January transfer window would solve all of their problems.
Yes, of course, a defensive midfielder would help, but Wolves’s problems are not just limited to that.
While Wolves have conceded 48 goals in the Premier League so far this season, they have scored only 31 in 21 league games.
True, Wolves have scored more than the likes of Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Southampton and Everton, but it is still an issue when one notes that in their last three Premier League games, they have scored just twice.
The Wanderers are 17th in the Premier League table at the moment with 16 points from 21 matches, level on points with third-from-bottom Ipswich Town, who have played a game more.
Wolves will take on Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League on Monday.
