Wolverhampton Wanderers have hatched a plan to stop Matheus Cunha from joining Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the January transfer window.
That is according to The Daily Mail, which has claimed that Arsenal are keen on bringing Cunha to the Emirates Stadium in the middle of the season.
Bukayo Saka has suffered a long-term hamstring injury, and Arsenal have identified Cunha as a potential replacement for the England international winger.
However, according to The Daily Mail, Wolves do not want to sell Cunha to Premier League rivals Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The Wanderers are working on a new deal for the Brazil international winger – who is rated highly by Alan Shearer – which would include a release clause.
The report has added that although Wolves are determined to keep the Brazilian star, Cunha, described as “a special player” by Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira on PremierLeague.com, himself is likely to be tempted by a move to Arsenal and could still leave for the North London club.
Arsenal could be able to sign Matheus Cunha in January
While Wolves are a big and established club in the Premier League, Arsenal could still be able to get a deal done for Cunha.
The Gunners are one of the biggest clubs on the planet and are a global brand. The North London club are in the race for the Premier League title and are also likely to go far in the UEFA Champions League this season.
If Arsenal make an offer, then it is hard to see Cunha turn down a move to the Emirates Stadium. That could force Wolves to make a decision.
The Brazilian winger has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored 24 goals and given 11 assists in those games. Cunha could prove to be a good signing for Arsenal.
