Wolves set to complete Emmanuel Agbadou transfer

Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to securing their first signing of the January transfer window by landing Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade de Reims.

According to David Ornstein, Wolves have already agreed a fee of €18 million plus €2m in add-ons for the Ivory Coast international.

The 27-year-old is undergoing his medical on Monday ahead of the move. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that the centre-back will become a new Wolves player this week, pending a successful application for a work permit.

The defender will sign a long-term contract at the Molineux. Ornstein says he will sign a four-and-a-half-year deal at Wolves with the option of a further 12 months.

Wolves are showing signs of recovery under the new manager, Vitor Pereira, and they have picked up two wins and a draw in their last three games.

As a result, they have moved out of the relegation zone. Wolves are 17th in the league table with 16 points, only above Ipswich Town in terms of goal difference.

Tough fixtures coming up for Wolves

Signing a new centre-back was a priority for Wolves this winter window. They sold Max Kilman to West Ham United in the summer and lost Yerson Mosquera, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Under Pereira, they have reverted to a back three in recent weeks. Agbadou has started 14 of his side’s 15 Ligue 1 fixtures for Reims, and he has frequently captained the side.

He has played 11 times for the Ivory Coast national team. He has a wealth of experience and comes at a decent price.

Wolves are about to enter their toughest phase of the season, with the fixture list not being kind to them at all.

They will face Nottingham Forest next in the Premier League, followed by Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

It will be seen as a remarkable achievement if they can pick up some valuable points from these fixtures. But it won’t be easy at all.
