Chelsea primed to pocket huge windfall as Liverpool ramp up Guehi interest

Chelsea have been active in the summer transfer window, but are now set to land a payout without lifting a finger.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as their summer spending spree continues.

If Liverpool wrap up the deal, Chelsea would benefit financially thanks to a 20 percent sell-on clause they negotiated when they sold Guehi to Palace in 2021..

Palace have been playing hardball with clubs looking to sign Guehi. Newcastle United have repeatedly tried to lure him away from London, but Palace rebuffed all their offers.

However, Liverpool could seal a deal for around £40m. If Guehi completes a move to Anfield for that figure, Chelsea would pocket roughly £8m.

Guehi is heading into the final year of his contract, so it’s now or never for the Eagles. They want him to sign a new deal, but that doesn’t seem likely at the moment.

The 24-year-old is now expected to leave Palace this summer rather than walk for free next year. Palace value Guehi at £70m, but Liverpool are unlikely to meet that price.

They are aiming for a compromise closer to £40m, which would still represent a huge profit for Palace, who paid just £18m for him.

The cash boost could fund further transfer activity from Chelsea. The Blues have already welcomed Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr.

A move for Jamie Gittens is in the works, having agreed a £55m deal with Borussia Dortmund. There is also strong interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro.
