Everton are interested in signing Villarreal striker Thierno Barry this summer, according to the Times.
The France international is reportedly ‘a leading target for Everton manager David Moyes’, who is keen on reinforcing his squad this summer.
However, the Toffees will be looking to negotiate his release clause of £34 million to fit their budget.
Barry bagged 11 goals and four assists in 35 La Liga appearances last term. He helped the club secure a slot in the Champions League next season and was praised by manager Marcelino Toral.
Before moving to Villarreal in August 2024, Barry made 38 league appearances at Basel, tallying 14 goals and five assists.
Everton are preparing for the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The England international is set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
They need a replacement, and the Villarreal ace is on their radar. Barry would provide competition for Beto, who bagged 12 goals last season and became a mainstay under Moyes.
Kone is a cheaper alternative to Barry
Barry could prove too expensive for Everton if Villarreal insist on his release clause. He might also decide to stay and play in the Champions League.
Everton must have an alternative, and Wycombe Wanderers ace Richard Kone is an option.
The 21-year-old finished the 2024/25 campaign with 21 goals in 50 games across all competitions as Wycombe reached the League One play-offs.
Charlton Athletic beat the Chairboys, but Kone’s performance in the second leg at the Valley caught the eye. He would be a cheaper punt than Barry.
