French Open 2025: Men’s Singles Quarter-Final Preview

The line-up for the men’s singles tournament at the 2025 French Open has been determined and features some surprising names.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have both progressed to the last eight, keeping themselves on course for a blockbuster final at Roland Garros.

However, maiden French Open quarter-finalists Alexander Bublik, Lorenzo Musetti and Frances Tiafoe will be hoping to upset the odds by winning a Grand Slam for the first time.

The clamour for Roland Garros tickets has already been off the scale, and Seatsnet.com will likely be inundated with traffic ahead of the quarter-final matches.

With that in mind, read on as we preview each of the quarter-finals and predict who we think will make it through to the last four of the tournament.

Tommy Paul vs Carlos Alcaraz

Tournament so far

Tommy Paul

  • First round: vs Elmer Moller – 6-7, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1
  • Second round: vs Marton Fucsovics – 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4
  • Third round: vs Karen Khachanov – 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3
  • Round of 16: vs Alexei Popyrin – 6-3, 6-3, 6-3

Carlos Alcaraz

  • First round: vs Giulio Zeppieri – 6-3, 6-4, 6-2
  • Second round: vs Fabian Marozsan – 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2
  • Third round: vs Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
  • Round of 16: vs Ben Shelton 7-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4

Tommy Paul looked in decent nick in his last-16 tie, defeating Alexei Popyrin in straight sets to set up a quarter-final match-up against the tournament favourite.

Paul has never previously progressed to this stage of the French Open and will need to be at his best to have any chance of defeating the clay specialist.

Alcaraz’s four-set victory over Ben Shelton in the previous round was his 100th win on clay in his 119th match. Only Rafael Nadal (100 wins in 112 matches) can top that record in the Open era.

Alcaraz defeated Paul in straight sets in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and a similar outcome is expected this time around.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Frances Tiafoe

Tournament so far

Lorenzo Musetti

  • First round: vs Yannick Hanfmann – 7-5, 6-2, 6-0
  • Second round: vs Daniel Elahi Galan – 6-4, 6-0, 6-4
  • Third round: vs Mariano Navone – 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2
  • Round of 16: vs Holger Rune – 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2

Frances Tiafoe

  • First round: vs Roman Safiullin 6-4, 7-5, 6-4
  • Second round: vs Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-3, 6-1
  • Third round: vs Sebastian Korda 7-6, 6-3, 6-4
  • Round of 16: vs Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-4, 7-6

Lorenzo Musetti overcame the shock of losing the second set against Holger Rune to eventually run out an emphatic winner in the previous round.

Musetti’s recent runs to the semi-finals in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome have sparked talk that he could be a genuine contender to win the French Open.

However, Tiafoe will have other ideas given his outstanding run at Roland Garros, where he has progressed to the quarter-finals without dropping a set.

Victories over Musetti at the Cincinnati Masters (2024) and Stuttgart (2023) could give Tiafoe a slight psychological advantage in what will be a fiercely fought contest.

Alexander Zverev vs Novak Djokovic

Tournament so far

Alexander Zverev

  • First round: vs Learner Tien – 6-3, 6-3, 6-4
  • Second round: vs Jesper de Jong – 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3
  • Third round: vs Flavio Cobolli – 6-2, 7-6, 6-1
  • Round of 16: vs Tallon Griekspoor – 6-4, 3-0 (ret)

Novak Djokovic

  • First round: vs Mackenzie McDonald – 6-3, 6-3, 6-3
  • Second round: vs Corentin Moutet – 6-3, 6-2, 7-6
  • Third round: vs Filip Misolic – 6-3, 6-4, 6-2
  • Round of 16: vs Cameron Norrie – 6-2, 6-3, 6-2

Novak Djokovic lost seven games against Cameron Norrie in the previous round to set up a mouth-watering quarter-final showdown with Alexander Zverev.

The 38-year-old was claiming his 100th victory at Roland Garros, and he will believe he can add another to his tally when he faces the German.

However, the number three seed will be well-rested for the match after his last-16 opponent Tallon Griekspoor retired with an abdominal injury while trailing 6-4, 3-0.

Zverev, who lost to Alcaraz in last year’s Roland Garros final, is narrowly fancied to edge past the Serbian and continue his bid to win his first Grand Slam title.

Jannik Sinner vs Alexander Bublik

Tournament so far

Jannik Sinner

  • First round: vs Arthur Rinderknech – 6-4, 6-3, 7-5
  • Second round: vs Richard Gasquet – 6-3, 6-0, 6-4
  • Third round: vs Jiri Lehecka – 6-0, 6-1, 6-2
  • Round of 16: vs Andrey Rublev – 6-1, 6-3, 6-4

Alexander Bublik

  • First round: vs James Duckworth – 6-2, 6-4, 6-4
  • Second round: vs Alex de Minaur – 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2
  • Third round: vs Henrique Rocha – 7-5, 6-1, 6-2
  • Round of 16: vs Jack Draper – 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4

Jannik Sinner has been a man on a mission at Roland Garros as he chases a fourth career Grand Slam and a first French Open success.

Sinner is yet to drop a set in this year’s tournament and is impossible to oppose in his upcoming quarter-final tie against Alexander Bublik.

Bublik has reached the final of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, but his chances of making further progress are remote against the world number one.

Sinner has shown no ill effects from his recent spell on the sidelines due to a doping violation, and he is a banker bet to secure a place in the semi-finals.
