The summer transfer window is already in full swing, and Premier League clubs are not holding back in their bid to strengthen ahead of the new season.
Several eye-catching deals have been completed, and some of the new signings are already lighting up the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
There’s still some way to go before players have to report for pre-season, and most clubs would ideally want their transfer business wrapped up before preparations begin.
While we expect more transfer activities across the board, here are some of the most eye-catching transfer rumours currently making the headlines from the Premier League.
Man United not giving up on Bryan Mbeumo chase
Manchester United are not throwing in the towel in their bid to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
However, the Bees have made it clear that they won’t let Mbeumo leave on the cheap.
They want United to pay more than the £62.5 million they spent to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this summer.
Brentford believe their star forward is worth more than the Brazilian, whose release clause was triggered by United in a deal structured across three instalments of £20.85m over two years.
United have already seen two bids for the 25-year-old Cameroon international turned down. Their latest offer was around £62.5m. They wanted to pay £55m upfront and an additional £7.5m in add-ons.
But Brentford are unmoved. They argue that Mbeumo’s numbers over the past few years justify their lofty asking price.
Last season, Mbeumo bagged 20 Premier League goals and weighed in with an additional eight assists.
With 15 goals and six assists in the Premier League, Cunha wasn’t far off. But Brentford claim Mbeumo has been more consistent over the past three seasons, and the statistics back up their theory.
In 2023/24, Cunha bagged 12 goals and seven assists in the Premier League. Mbeumo ended that campaign with nine goals and seven assists.
Going back further, Mbeumo scored four goals and provided seven assists in 2021/22. He followed that up with nine goals and eight assists in 2022/23.
Meanwhile, Cunha could only muster two goals in 17 league games in his first season in England in 2022/23 after joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.
In his defence, he was still finding his feet in arguably the most challenging division in Europe.
But Brentford are still determined to get more than what United paid for Cunha. Mbeumo’s status in the Brentford ranks went up a notch when Ivan Toney left the club.
The Cameroonian is key to the club’s long-term plans, but he could be on the move this summer.
Mbeumo has told Brentford that he wants to join United. Tottenham Hotspur were also interested, but he has made it clear that his next stop would be Old Trafford if he leaves Brentford this summer.
United are still hoping to strike a deal. Sources close to the negotiations suggest a breakthrough is likely, with United potentially returning with an improved offer in the coming days.
However, they will likely need to meet Brentford’s demand of at least £62.5m as a guaranteed fee – not including add-ons – to get their man.
Brentford are holding all the cards, but the growing momentum behind the transfer suggests that it may only be a matter of time before Mbeumo becomes the latest addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad.
For now, the ball is in United’s court. They need to dig a little deeper to get this one over the line.
West Ham interested in Yann Bisseck
West Ham United are reportedly monitoring Inter Milan centre-back Yann Bisseck as manager Graham Potter begins his summer revamp.
With the Hammers keen to inject pace and composure into their backline, the young German defender has emerged as a potential target.
Bisseck is exactly the kind of talent fans will pay a decent fee to buy West Ham tickets from Seatsnet.com so they can see him live in action.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a standout campaign under Simone Inzaghi at Inter. He featured 46 times across all competitions last season, contributing three goals and three assists.
He is calm in possession, aware of his environment, and has a strong presence both in the air and on the ground. He’s highly regarded as one of the most promising defenders in Serie A.
Potter is said to be prioritising defenders with long-term potential, and Bisseck fits that bill perfectly.
West Ham believe the former Cologne youngster can bring energy and quality to their defence while also growing into a top-level Premier League player. However, signing him won’t be easy.
Bisseck is tied to Inter until June 2029, a contract that gives the Italian giants firm control over his future.
With his stock rising, Inter will likely demand a significant fee for his services. But the real problem for West Ham would be persuading the player to consider a move to East London.
Their lack of European football would be a massive stumbling block, with Bisseck likely to see moving from Inter to West Ham as a step-down.
Chelsea agree Jamie Gittens deal
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens for £55m.
The highly rated winger has already agreed personal terms and is set to pen a seven-year contract with the London club.
The 20-year-old had been on Chelsea’s radar for months. The Blues were keen to bring him in ahead of the Club World Cup but couldn’t seal the move in time.
Now, they’ve finally landed one of the Bundesliga’s most electric young dribblers. Gittens had a bright first half of the season in Germany, scoring 12 goals and assisting five more.
However, his form dipped in the latter stages under new manager Niko Kovac. Still, his raw talent and ability to beat defenders make him a thrilling addition to Chelsea’s youthful project.
Chelsea have long needed reinforcements on the left wing. Gittens fits the bill, though some fans may raise eyebrows at yet another youngster joining a squad already brimming with potential rather than experience.
The move could have a knock-on effect, with rising academy star Tyrique George possibly heading out on loan to find regular minutes.
George has impressed in limited appearances, contributing three goals and five assists this season.
