AC Milan have joined the race for wantaway Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A giants have made contact with Chelsea to explore the conditions of a potential deal.
Chelsea are hoping to cash in on the France international before the transfer window closes, and Milan are now looking like his next destination.
While he struggled to nail down a starting spot last term, he was still considered an important part of the squad and made 48 appearances across all competitions.
He bagged 15 goals and five assists, although most of his goal contributions came in the Europa Conference League.
He started just nine Premier League games and was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s final victory over Real Betis in May.
The Frenchman hasn’t featured for Chelsea this season and is eager to leave the club this summer.
Nkunku has been linked with Aston Villa, Manchester United and his former club RB Leipzig, but now has his heart set on a move to Milan.
The Rossoneri are pushing for a permanent deal and are reportedly preparing an official bid in the region of €40 million (£34.4m).
Nkunku will be a fantastic addition for Milan, and his ability to play in multiple attacking positions will be useful for manager Massimiliano Allegri.
His exit will also bolster Chelsea’s chances of bringing in fresh reinforcements, with the club still working on a double deal for Man United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
While Nkunku is getting closer to joining Milan, fellow unwanted star Nicolas Jackson is also on the cusp of joining Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal.
Bayern also explored the possibility of signing Nkunku, but decided to prioritise Jackson, who is an ideal target to provide cover for Harry Kane.
