Alexander Isak breaks silence on transfer stand-off with Newcastle

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has finally spoken about the ongoing transfer saga after refusing to play for the club.

The Newcastle centre-forward was scheduled to be at the Professional Football Association (PFA) Awards tonight, where he is a nominee and made the team of the season, but opted not to attend.

Isak went on Instagram to explain his absence and clarify his situation with the Magpies. He alluded to promises being broken by Newcastle.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue,” he wrote via his Instagram page.

Newcastle have been fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of Isak this summer.

The Magpies rejected Liverpool’s first approach for the former Borussia Dortmund centre-forward. The Reds subsequently signed Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle had also been eyeing Ekitike as a potential target.

Liverpool are still tracking Isak, but Newcastle have refused to move on their £150 million valuation.

Isak did not feature for Newcastle at Aston Villa in the Premier League curtain-raiser on Saturday. He didn’t feature once during pre-season.

This weekend promises to be interesting as Newcastle take on Liverpool at St James’ Park.

With tensions boiling over and Liverpool looming on the horizon, all eyes will be on what Newcastle do next with Isak.
