Chelsea have sought information about Gianluigi Donnarumma

Chelsea have enquired about Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (h/t journalist Marc Mechenoua).

The Blues want to complete their squad by adding a reliable goalkeeper.

Robert Sanchez may have delivered a heroic performance in the FIFA Club World Cup final, but the Stamford Bridge hierarchy is not getting carried away.

Chelsea tried to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan immediately after the transfer window opened.

However, their offer was insufficient to convince the Serie A club to let their new captain leave.

The Europa Conference League champions are now tracking Donnarumma, whose future beyond this summer is uncertain.

PSG manager Luis Enrique believes the former Milan star is ‘very intelligent’ and ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’.

The Italian international, who is entering the final year of his contract at PSG, is considering an exit even though a new deal is on the table.

The French media have been linking him with a move to Chelsea. However, it remains unclear if Chelsea will pursue a move for the 26-year-old.

He is already on massive wages in France, and Chelsea’s new model does not allow them to sign such players.

Chelsea baulked at Victor Osimhen’s demands last summer and have backed away from several transfers because of the wages involved.

The Blues have goalkeeper Mike Penders waiting in the wings and signing Donnarumma would block his path.

The Blues need a stop-gap option while Penders develops in France and comes back ready to take the starting berth.

Even though it is looking unlikely, returning to the market for Maignan makes more sense than signing Donnarumma.
