Preview: Chelsea vs Fulham – H2H, Best XIs, How to Watch & More

Chelsea wrap up August with a mouth-watering showdown against Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

Both sides will lock horns in a West London derby with Chelsea looking to bolster their chances of competing for the Premier League title this season.

With two capital rivals set to lock horns, ticket sales are expected to do impressive numbers.

Tickets are available through official channels, but Blues fans who buy Chelsea tickets at resellers such as Seatsnet will be keen to get their money’s worth on August 30.

The Blues were considered dark horses in the race for England’s holy grail heading into the season following their astonishing success at the Club World Cup.

That success put a massive target on their back heading into the new season, with many expecting the Blues to challenge for the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Fulham are looking to build on their 11th-place finish from last season.

At some point, they were competing for a spot in Europe and kept the top seven within their reach, but they tailed off towards the end of the campaign.

Nevertheless, an 11th-place finish was impressive for Fulham, although they’d be keen to go one step further this season and potentially qualify for a place in Europe.

However, Fulham have hardly moved the needle in the transfer market this summer.

The only addition to Marco Silva’s squad so far is 34-year-old goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte from Ligue 2 outfit Montpellier.

Match Preview

Chelsea kicked off their campaign with a frustrating goalless draw against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Unlike their Premier League rivals, Maresca’s side only had two weeks of pre-season as a consequence of their Club World Cup success, so it makes sense that they were a tad rusty in their curtain raiser.

Palace saw a fantastic free kick from Eberechi Eze ruled out for an infringement, but other than that, Chelsea did well to stifle the Eagles.

While Oliver Glasner’s side returned the favour, Chelsea created enough opportunities to snatch a win. But none of Estevao, Liam Delap, or Andrey Santos could take their chances late in the second half.

Maresca will be hoping his side can build momentum ahead of the game against Fulham as they travel east of the capital to take on West Ham United before hosting the Cottagers.

If Chelsea get all three points against West Ham, they’d be brimming with confidence ahead of Fulham.

Silva’s side also shared the spoils in their Premier League curtain raiser as a last-minute strike from Rodrigo Muniz snatched a point against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Seagulls were minutes away from a winning start after taking the lead through Matt O’Riley’s penalty, but Fulham refused to go quietly.

Fulham have a busier schedule than Chelsea. Before visiting the Bridge, they face a daunting clash against a resurgent Manchester United side at Craven Cottage.

After taking on Ruben Amorim’s new look Red Devils, the Cottagers welcome Championship side Bristol City to the capital for their EFL Cup second round meeting.

The game against Bristol would be a decent chance for Fulham to build some momentum ahead of the capital derby, but fatigue could affect their chances of stunning the Bridge into silence on August 30.

Head to Head

Fulham have fond memories of their recent trip to the Bridge after taking three points in their most recent encounter on Chelsea’s turf.

Cole Palmer had given Chelsea the lead, but the Cottagers turned things around to claim a stunning comeback 2-1 win courtesy of late goals from Harry Wilson and Muniz.

Chelsea returned the favour in their last meeting with Fulham at Craven Cottage. They also came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to late goals from Tyrique George and Pedro Neto.

That game was a massive turning point in Chelsea’s top-four challenge last season, and Maresca’s side will be looking for vengeance when they renew hostilities with their West London counterparts.

Last season’s home defeat against Fulham ended Chelsea’s 17-game unbeaten run against the Cottagers, and the Blues will be looking to reset that record on matchday three.

It was also the second time Fulham beat Chelsea in their last six Premier League games since a narrow 2-1 win back in January 2023.

Best XIs

Chelsea

Chelsea will keep faith in Sanchez despite his shaky displays, with the Spaniard set to start in goal again on Sunday.

With Colwill unavailable, Maresca is expected to turn to a back four of Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Marc Cucurella.

In midfield, the reliable double pivot of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo provides stability and control, allowing Cole Palmer to operate freely between the lines as Chelsea’s creative spark.

Palmer’s ability to unlock defences will be central to breaking down Fulham’s dogged backline.

Out wide, the electric Estevao looks set to start on the right, with Pedro Neto on the opposite flank. New signing Pedro starts up top after a fantastic start to life in Blue.

(4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Adarabioyo, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Estevao; Pedro.

Fulham

Fulham should stick with the 4-2-3-1 set-up that has served them well as they take on United, with Bernd Leno anchoring the side in goal.

Kenny Tete and Antonee Robinson will look to provide width from full-back, while Joachim Andersen and Calvin Bassey form a physically strong centre-back pairing.

In midfield, Sander Berge and Sasa Lukic offer balance, combining defensive stability with ball progression.

The creative burden falls on Harry Wilson, Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi behind Raul Jimenez, who will be tasked with leading the line and unsettling United’s defence with his hold-up play.

(4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukic; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Iwobi; Jimenez.
