Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the club will not make any new signings in the January transfer window, AS reports.
Despite Gavi’s long-term injury, the Catalan giants have decided to stick with their current squad. Barca plan to leverage Gavi’s injury to recoup part of the bank guarantee used to register players.
They will recover €9 million out of the €16m they invested to register players due to the mystery surrounding the VIP box fees.
The decision means that Joan Garcia and Roony Bardghji will remain Barca’s only additions to their squad for the 2025/26 season.
Laporta explained that the club’s primary focus is maintaining financial stability and working toward fully returning to the 1:1 spending rule – a target that could require around €37m in adjustments.
Barca have managed to tie several key players to new long-term deals, which the club hierarchy considers the foundation of their success.
Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Frenkie de Jong and Gerard Martin have all committed their futures to the club.
Barca are now working on new deals for Eric Garcia and Ferran Torres. They’ve also managed to keep Fermin Lopez away from Chelsea.
The Blues were determined to land the 22-year-old attacking midfielder last summer and formalised their interest with a formal bid.
However, they were turned down by Barca, who weren’t interested in selling the academy graduate.
Lopez also made it clear that he had no plans of leaving his boyhood club, but that hasn’t deterred the Blues, who are waiting in the wings in case he changes his mind.
The Blaugranas are two points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid, and both clubs will lock horns in a blockbuster El Clasico showdown this weekend.
