Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic has claimed that Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho can still win the Ballon d’Or.
The Red Devils forward is currently on loan at Aston Villa, having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford. He has failed to make an impact with Villa.
Terzic, who managed Sancho at Dortmund, remains convinced the 25-year-old still has what it takes to fulfil his potential.
“All those players can win the Ballon d’Or in the future,” Terzic told the Daily Telegraph.
“Even Jadon. From the talent point of view, if you talk about Jadon, then maybe five years ago, you would have spoken about Ousmane Dembele in the same way. I am talking about the talent and potential.
“The difference is that Erling (Haaland) will reach this level if he stays hungry. Jadon will only reach this level if he keeps smiling – and Jude (Bellingham) needs to do both.
“On the pitch, I tried to reach the joy of the child in Jadon – off the pitch, the professional athlete in Jadon.”
Sancho was widely tipped to take the world by storm after his performances during his first spell at Dortmund.
Man United signed him in a £73 million deal in 2021 following a return of 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games for the Bundesliga club.
He has been a shadow of himself since then, with 12 goals and six assists to his name in 83 appearances for the Red Devils.
Loan spells at Dortmund, Chelsea and Villa have not gone as Man United would have hoped, and Terzic’s claims that he can win the Ballon d’Or will have plenty of fans laughing.
