Liverpool have been linked with a move for Dayot Upamecano, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires next summer.
However, the Reds are not alone in the race to sign the 27-year-old.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are in the picture, while Bayern are fight tooth and nail to keep him in Bavaria.
The Liverpool target is not losing sleep over the links and would rather concentrate on his football.
Upamecano said (via L’Equipe), “My agent is taking care of it. We will make the right decision. I am receiving good advice.
“I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team.
“I don’t have the head space for it. I’m completely relaxed. I’m under contract with Bayern. I have goals. But I’m very grateful when clubs are interested in me.”
Upamecano has evolved into one of the most complete defenders in world football and would fit in at Liverpool.
He has shed his former penchant for high-profile errors, maturing into a commanding presence at the heart of Bayern’s defence.
His reading of the game, positional intelligence and physical authority have been central to the Bavarians’ boasting the best defensive record in the Bundesliga this season.
Only five clubs have posted better numbers in the Champions League, a testament to Bayern’s renewed solidity with Upamecano as the anchor.
His transformation into an elite centre-back is beyond dispute, and Liverpool’s admiration for him makes perfect sense.
