Liverpool will be left with no choice but to sack Arne Slot if the players do not start responding

Liverpool will be left with no choice but to sack Arne Slot if the players do not start responding, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

He was referencing someone with knowledge of the Liverpool hierarchy in his ‘Inside Football’ bi-weekly newsletter today.

The Anfield club have lost nine of their last 12 games across all competitions and pressure is mounting on their manager.

Liverpool lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday in the Champions League following a 3-0 Premier League defeat against Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

Slot is struggling to get a response out of his players, which could prove costly if the results do not change.

“And, as one figure with knowledge of the Liverpool hierarchy said, ‘if the players still aren’t responding, there is no other choice’,” Delaney wrote in his newsletter.

The Reds are back in action on Sunday when they visit the London Stadium to take on West Ham United before hosting Sunderland next Wednesday.

Liverpool have become unpredictable in recent weeks, and most clubs will fancy their chances against them at the moment.

Winning the Premier League title last term has helped Slot, as he would likely have been sacked by now had he finished his debut campaign without a major trophy.

Nevertheless, Liverpool must start winning games regularly if the Dutchman wants to hold on to his job. December could be crucial to his chances of staying in charge for much longer.

Slot hit the ground running after succeeding Jurgen Klopp ahead of last season, but the onus is now on him to prove his worth following the dismal run of form in recent weeks.
