Real Madrid out of the race to sign Liverpool target Marc Guehi

Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their bid to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield next summer.

The Reds want the England international defender but face serious competition from European clubs in the race to sign him on a free transfer.

However, according to AS, his future seems more likely to be in the Premier League, and Liverpool are the clear favourites to sign him.

The player’s high demands, both in terms of salary and signing bonus, make a move to Real Madrid ‘virtually impossible’.

Liverpool should be pulling out all the stops to sign Guehi when he leaves Crystal Palace on a free transfer next summer.

The 25-year-old is the perfect long-term successor to Virgil Van Dijk and could play alongside him if Ibrahima Konate leaves for free next summer.

The Reds cannot afford to let him slip away. Even if Los Blancos are out of the picture, the Merseyside outfit must be wary of Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Liverpool should also consider replicating the same free transfer masterstroke with Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman’s contract situation at Bayern Munich could pave the way for a sensational coup, and his addition would immediately bolster their defensive options.

With Joe Gomez enduring a torrid campaign and looking likely to depart in the summer, Upamecano would be a massive upgrade.

He is a physically dominant, ball-playing centre-back who fits the club’s tactical identity.

Signing both players for free would be shrewd business if Liverpool can persuade them both to move to Merseyside.
