Arsenal set for FA disciplinary action after picking up six yellow cards against Chelsea

Arsenal are set to be punished by the Football Association (FA) after picking up six yellow cards in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

Manager Mikel Arteta watched helplessly on the sidelines as the Gunners had to come from behind to secure a hard-fought draw despite playing the second half against ten men.

They struggled to break down a resolute Chelsea defence and missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Martin Zubimendi, Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie were booked in the first half. Myles Lewis-Skelly and Viktor Gyokeres were cautioned after the break.

As stated in the FA handbook for the season, any team that accumulates six or more yellow cards in one game is subject to a £25,000 fine.

The FA will take disciplinary action against a club if six or more of the club’s players or technical area occupants are either cautioned or sent off.

The fine is doubled if they do it again, and so on. The last time Arsenal were hit with the same fine was in February 2024, when they received six yellow cards in a 3-1 home win over Liverpool.

The Gunners are back in action on Wednesday when they host Brentford before a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Arsenal have won once in their last four meetings with Villa (L2), and they need to be at the top of their game to leave with all three points next weekend.

The Midlands club are fourth in the table, six points behind the Gunners, and they will be desperate to hand them their second league defeat of the 2025-26 season.
