Former West Ham United star Michail Antonio training with Leicester City

Former West Ham United winger Michail Antonio has been training with Leicester City as a free agent, according to the Telegraph journalist John Percy.

Antonio left West Ham in the summer after both parties could not agree on an extension. He was at Leicester’s training ground on Thursday for talks over a deal.

Antonio has not played at senior level since a road traffic accident last December, but he has featured for West Ham Under-21s in recent months to build up his fitness.

The 35-year-old played for them against Nottingham Forest U21s in Premier League 2 in August and is now hoping to get a deal at Leicester.

He spent ten seasons with the Hammers, scoring 83 goals in 323 appearances, and he is not keen on retiring from playing.

Leicester are 13th in the Championship table after 20 games, with three points separating them from the play-off positions.

The Foxes manager Marti Cifuentes could be open to handing Antonio a deal until the end of the season if he believes he has what it takes to boost their promotion chances.

The versatile attacker will not be short of suitors in the Championship if Leicester decide against a deal.

Antonio still believes he has what it takes to play in the Premier League, but he may need to prove himself in the Championship first after a year out of action.
