Leeds United want Union Berlin centre-back Danilho Doekhi

Leeds United are considering a move for a new centre-back during the winter transfer window and have Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi on their radar, according to Sky Sports.

Manager Daniel Farke wants to strengthen at the back as the Whites only have three recognised centre-backs in their squad.

Doekhi has six months left on his contract with the Bundesliga club and could be available for a decent fee.

The 27-year-old Dutchman has decided to leave Union Berlin as a free agent at the end of the season, and they could be open to selling him next month to get something for him.

It could give Leeds a chance as they look to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.

Doekhi is one of the most dangerous defenders in Europe in the opposition’s penalty box, with nine headed goals since his Bundesliga debut in 2022.

No defender has scored more goals with his head in Europe’s five major leagues since then.

The Leeds target has scored six goals in 18 games this season, and he could be a real asset at both ends of the pitch for the club.

They are 16th in the Premier League table after 18 games, seven points above the relegation zone.

However, Leeds are not guaranteed safety yet and will need to rack up more points in their mission to hold on to their top-flight status at the end of the season.

They need to add a couple of top players to their squad in the winter transfer window to boost their chances of survival, and Doekhi fits the bill.
