Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee pushing for a move to AS Roma, internal meeting held today

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is pushing for a move to AS Roma in the winter transfer window.

He was removed at half-time against Wolverhampton Wanderers last night, despite scoring the opening goal.

Internal meetings were held today, during which the Dutchman confirmed his intention to leave the Red Devils before the end of the transfer window.

Zirkzee’s representatives are convinced Man United will sanction his exit, which would leave manager Ruben Amorim with no option but to target a direct replacement.

The Red Devils are currently thin in attack, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo currently at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations with their respective countries.

Ivory Coast and Cameroon have advanced to the round of 16 and will be desperate to win the tournament.

United could be without Mbeumo and Diallo for the next fortnight if they reach the semi-finals with their countries, which could prompt the club to recruit another attacker.

Zirkzee joined the Red Devils from Bologna on a five-year deal in 2024, but his tally of nine goals and three assists in 62 appearances is underwhelming.

Man United need an upgrade, but acquiring a quality replacement for him midway through the season could prove tricky.

They were in the running for Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo, but he wants to join Manchester City.

The onus is on the club to get the perfect player in the position, as a top addition could make all the difference in their pursuit of a top-four finish.
