Essugo set to be out for over a month, Chelsea boss Rosenior

Chelsea midfielder Dario Essugo has picked up another injury and is set to be out for over a month, according to manager Liam Rosenior.

The Chelsea ace joined the club last summer but has been unlucky with fitness issues. He missed a chunk of the season already and will now spend another significant period on the treatment table.

Chelsea are short in midfield with Romeo Lavia still not ready, leaving Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Andrey Santos to share the duties.

The Blues are reportedly trying to sign Douglas Luiz on loan to bolster their midfield options following recent setbacks.

Essugo will hope to return fit and firing in the first week of March, building steam towards the end of the season.

The addition of Luiz and Reece James’ ability to step into the engine room will help alleviate the pressure of Essugo’s latest setback.

Essugo’s development now needs rhythm as much as recovery.

The 20-year-old possesses power, aggression and an instinct for screening the back line, but repeated injuries have stalled his momentum.

A loan move at the end of the campaign feels increasingly necessary, not as a step down, but as a step forward.

Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club, stand out as an ideal destination.

They are crying out for a physical, ball-winning presence at the base of midfield to balance Valentin Barco’s dynamism and creativity.

Essugo would offer bite, protection and structure, while benefiting from regular starts in a competitive league that values intensity and duels.

A potential move to Wolverhampton Wanderers to replace either Andre or Joao Gomes would not be the worst idea.
