Thomas Tuchel is at the top of Manchester United’s list to become permanent manager this summer

England manager Thomas Tuchel is at the top of Manchester United’s list to become their next permanent manager this summer.

Man United placed Darren Fletcher in charge of the first-team after sacking Ruben Amorim on Monday but are planning to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis until the end of the season.

They want a permanent manager to replace the Norwegian and have been linked with a couple of top bosses, including Thomas Tuchel.

Journalist Alex Crook claims the German has emerged as a top target as he could leave the Three Lions after the World Cup.

“The name I keep hearing come the summer is Thomas Tuchel, the England manager, very much at the top of Manchester United’s list,” Crook said.

“He turned down the opportunity before becoming England manager, but I don’t think that means necessarily that he wouldn’t entertain the idea.

“I would be fascinated to see how he operates alongside Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada and Christopher Vivell, and if we’ll get the same sort of frustrations that clearly Ruben Amorim did towards the end.”

Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 and also won league titles with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich before moving away from club management to join England.

However, a return to the Premier League could appeal to him once his 18-month contract expires at the end of the World Cup in July.

Man United need a top manager if they want to become a force to be reckoned with again in England and Europe, and it will be intriguing to see who they appoint.
