Arsenal are already plotting a potential £100 million move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer transfer window, according to the Sun.
Manager Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the Italian and is keen to pair him with Declan Rice.
Tonali was linked with a move to the Gunners yesterday following Mikel Merino’s injury. While the rumours had no legs, something could happen in the summer.
Newcastle could miss out on Champions League football next season after an underwhelming Premier League campaign, and Tonali may be open to leaving.
Manchester City and Chelsea also want the 25-year-old. The Magpies are not looking to sell him, but a lack of European football could force them to cash in.
Tonali joined the club in a £55m deal from AC Milan in 2023 but has since signed a new contract, which runs until 2029 with the option for an additional 12 months.
Newcastle will want at least £100m for him from suitors if the Italian wants to move on, and Arsenal could be ready to do business.
Merino, Martin Zubimendi and Ethan Nwaneri (on loan at Marseille) are all options for Arteta in the middle of the park.
However, the Spaniard loves quality competition in his squad, having strengthened his attack with several stars last summer.
A big-money move for a midfielder next summer cannot be ruled out.
