Arsenal leading race to sign Anthony Gordon ahead of Liverpool & Man Utd

Arsenal are the front-runners to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, according to the Sun.

The Gunners are likely to reinforce their attacking department this summer, and a marquee left winger could be a top priority for manager Mikel Arteta.

Gordon has been mentioned as a target in recent months, and the Gunners are reportedly leading Liverpool and United in the race to sign him.

Arsenal believe Gordon would be happy to head to London this summer. Arteta is reportedly a big admirer of him from his early years at Everton.

The winger will enter the last two years of his contract. The Magpies will demand £95 million for him, but Arsenal are likely to end up paying £75m to sign him.

Gordon could replace Trossard, not Martinelli

The 25-year-old has not been at his best in the Premier League this campaign, but his form has been quite extraordinary in the Champions League.

Gordon has notched up 19 goal contributions across all competitions. Out of those, he has made 12 goal contributions in just 10 European matches.

The Everton graduate is primarily a left-sided winger, but can also operate from the right wing or up front.

Arteta prefers versatile players, which could be why there is ongoing interest.

Gabriel Martinelli may depart to compensate for Gordon’s arrival, but Leandro Trossard could be the player to make way this summer.

Trossard was handed an improved salary last summer, without his deal being extended beyond June 2027. The Belgian could be sold when he enters the last year of his contract.

The 31-year-old had a bright start to the season with the Gunners, but his form has been inconsistent in recent months. He could be shown the exit door in a few months.

Gordon would be a good competitor to Martinelli. He has similar attributes to the Brazilian, with his pace and quick dribbling, but he is better at ball-carrying. He would suit Arsenal’s playing style.
