Government confirm Pakistan will play T20 World Cup 2026 match against India

Pakistan has confirmed that the T20 World Cup 2026 match against India will take place on February 15.

The government’s decision was taken with the aim of ‘protecting the spirit of cricket, and to support the continuity of this global sport in all participating nations’.

Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake asked Pakistan to resolve the issue and play the scheduled fixture with India.

The development comes after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with the International Cricket Council (ICC) deputy chair Imran Khawaja to discuss the matter on Sunday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam also attended the meeting.

Bangladesh pulled out of the World Cup citing security concerns, after the ICC rejected their request to move their matches to Sri Lanka.

Pakistan then decided to boycott the highly lucrative fixture with India to express solidarity with the Tigers.

The BCB President Aminul Islam thanked the PCB for their support in a statement, but urged Pakistan to play the February 15 game.

The Green Shirts started their World Cup campaign with a thrilling victory over Netherlands on Saturday at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

They were on course for a comfortable win after restricting their opponents to 147.

A spectacular middle-order collapse almost took the game away, but Faheem Ashraf’s blistering 29-run knock rescued them.

Pakistan will take on the United States on Tuesday in Colombo.
